Fan Art of Codex from "The Guild" : [link]

Felicia Day hugged me.

I know, I know, a spoiler right up front. I feel nearly ready to launch into a pseudo-Seinfeld (or possibly Costanza) skit about who hugged who first, and whatfor. But perhaps it'd be best if I just got on with telling the story.

Today was the one day my partner was treating me to a PAX ticket. I brought everything I could imagine needing or wanting, including a folder of Felicia Day fan art (link). Back when I went to see the Serenity screening, I didn't even think to bring the fan art, and so missed the chance to give Adam Baldwin my doodling of Jayne. Since I planned to actually stop at the table and have oh, anything signed, I made sure to bring stuff to give, too.

I met my partner downtown, and we walked over to the Convention Center. One we had tickets, we headed toward the exhibit hall. We passed an area outside where booths were set up for The Guild, Wil Wheaton, and so on (though Wil wasn't there at the time). I got in the small line for The Guild, and I was cool man, cool as ice. I planned to pick up something to have signed, and just ask Ms. Day if she would accept a gift of fan art. I was next in line when they had to take a break, and while I was waiting, I chose a poster for "Legend of Neil" to have signed. When they got back, Sandeep Parikh seemed excited that anyone wanted LON stuff. And after Felicia Day signed the poster, I asked my question.

"Will you accept a gift of some fan art?" She got big eyes and said "Sure!" I gave her a tidy and pretty folder full of art of her, and relating to things she's worked on (So... mostly Dr. Horrible. *ahem*). The main two images on either side were the the fan art of Codex, and the yogurty fan art of Penny.

I mean, yeah, it's a kick when people like what I do, I'm glad when folks dig it, and it's definitely nice when the subject of my fan art finds it flattering... yet, I did not expect her reaction. It went kinda like this (I may not be exact here, I'm still suffering from fan girl blur of no-wai-that-didn't-akshually-happen)...

FD: "Oh wow! My boobs are huge!" ::shows Sandeep*::
Me: "Well, it is MMO art..."
FD & SP : (chatter about her boobs)
FD: ::looks at the next piece:: "Oh! I have this one bookmarked!"

Then there was a lot of boggle, omigosh, this is awesome, and her leaping up and offering a hug.

Then I realized my eyes were watering. Allergies, I thought. Peculiar air conditioning. Mascara flaking into my eye and OMG I can't rub it, she's looking right at me! There's GOT to be a reason, because I am NOT crying. I'm not that kind of fangirl!

Except I totally am.

And I was trying not to impose, not to linger. She may have asked how I make the art (and I may have answered), and she may have said something about being in awe of people who can draw. There was a significant line behind me by now. Then a rather impressive fellow with a camera behind me insisted on pictures, then Felicia insisted on pictures, and you may, at some point, find pictures of a very much dazed me in a picture with Felicia Day. I'm the one that looks like fandoms exploding from my eyeballs.

When I finally wandered away, I returned to being totally cool. Except I'm not. I'm a huge, ridiculous dork.
